The best places to visit.


Hannibal is a unique place. It has a wide variety of activities and sites to see. Here is a list of the cream of the crop, the crème de la crème, in other words, if you're in the area check these attractions out.

The New Mark Twain Museum

The New Mark Twain Museum is located on the corner of Main and Center and is a good place to start any trip to Hannibal. It houses 15 original Norman Rockwell paintings that were used as illustrations for special editions of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." There is also a replica steamboat pilot house and several interactive activities as well. Price: Adults $6, Children ages 6 through 12, $2.50.

Mark Twain Boyhood Home

The true boyhood home of Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain, is located in downtown Hannibal and has been restored to look like it did when Twain lived there. If you're a fan of Twain, it's worth the money. Price: Adults $6, Children ages 6 through 12, $2.50.

Mark Twain Cave and Cameron Cave

Both caves are located off Highway 79, south of Hannibal. Mark Twain Cave is the inspiration for several of Tom and Huck's adventures in Mark Twain's books. There is a 55-minute lighted tour of the cave available. Cameron Cave, on the other hand, requires several guests to carry lanterns on the one-hour-and-20-minute tour. Both caves are beautiful and offer their own sights and sounds. One similarity is that both are cool all year, so bring something to keep warm. Prices: Mark Twain Cave, Adults $10; children ages 5 through 12, $5.00; ages four and under, free. Cameron Cave, adults, $12; children ages 5 through 12, $6.

Mark Twain Riverboat

Hannibal's riverboat is a must-see for visitors wanting to fully understand the majesty of the Mississippi River. The riverboat offers a variety of cruises, including a sightseeing cruise, a dinner cruise and a jazz cruise. The riverboat is a great way to see the area and enjoy the river. Prices: One-hour cruise, adults, $9.00; children $6.00. Dinner cruise, adults, $25.95; children (ages 3 through 12) $17.95.

Mark Twain Lighthouse and Lovers Leap
These two attractions offer amazing views of the Mississippi River, Hannibal and the surrounding countryside. The lighthouse is located north of downtown on Cardiff Hill and Lovers Leap is located south of downtown, off Highway 79. It is a free view from both locations. If you love beautiful views and scenery, then definitely check these out.
